The planning, design, and construction of a small, urban high school - The Center School - in Seattle, Washington, is described. Situated within an historic, commercial building located in the city's cultural center, The Center School is presented as a model for school community partnerships and progressive education. Obstacles and opportunities to the "The Center School" model are briefly reviewed.
